President John Dramani Mahama cast his vote in his home town of Bole Bamboi in the Bole constituency of the Northern Region, 566 km north of the capital on Wednesday.
Mahama, who is seeking re-election in a fierce contest, flew to Bole in a helicopter late Tuesday after addressing the nation ahead of the election.
"I voted in Bole, my hometown. I voted for the vision we all carry in our hearts: a 21st century Ghana where absolute poverty is abolished, where human rights are fully respected, and where our dreams can come true. I am fully confident we'll get there! Ghana is Love! Ghana is rising," Mahama told the media.
Meanwhile, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, main rival of President John Dramani Mahama, also cast his ballot Wednesday morning in his home region at Kyebi in the Abuakwa South constituency of the Eastern Region.
He appealed to voters to go out and cast their ballot in a peaceful manner.
Elections opened throughout the country at 7 a.m. on Wednesday as 15.7 million voters are expected to vote for a president and 275 parliamentarians. Endit
