Albania to start work on inter-city railway next year

Xinhua, December 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

Construction of a rail line linking Albania's capital Tirana with Rinas airport and the coastal city Durres will start next year, an Albanian official said Wednesday.

The cost of the railway project amounted to 11 million euros (11.84 million U.S. dollars), Albanian minister of transport and infrastructure Sokol Dervishaj told the parliamentary committee of economy where he presented the 2017 budget of his ministry.

The Albanian transport ministry, in cooperation with the German government and International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, has started procedures for this project, which is the biggest one in the region, Dervishaj said.

"Our transport policy is focused on accelerating efforts to implement the reform of the railway sector," he said. Endit
