Two Al-Shabaab militants killed in southwest Somalia

At least two Al-Shabaab militants were killed and an unknown number injured after heavy fighting between Somali National Army backed by the African Union peacekeeping troops near the strategic town of Wajid in Bakool region in southwest Somalia, officials said on Friday.

Somali Government Army official Col. Tesow Abdullahi told reporters that the fighting began on Thursday evening and lasted several hours over night.

"We killed two Al-Shabaab militants during the fighting. They fled with their bodies. However, we lost one soldier and another was injured during the fighting outside the town,"" Abdullahi said.

The official added that they are committed to flushing out the militants by extending the security operations to their remaining strongholds. Endit
