100 kg of new type drug precursor seized at Sofia Airport

Xinhua, December 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

Bulgarian customs officers at Sofia Airport have seized a consignment of 100 kg of new type of drug precursor, officials said on Friday.

The precursor arrived as cargo and has been declared as substance used in consumer industry, the National Customs Agency (NCA) said in a statement.

However, laboratory analysis showed that the powder's chemical composition did not correspond to its declaration, and had the properties of a new type of precursor that could be used to produce synthetic drugs, the NCA said.

"A sample of the substance will be sent for identification to the laboratories of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre," the statement added.

In 2015, the amount of drugs and precursors seized by the NCA totaled 1,329 kg. Endit
