Fatah party convenes to reiterate statehood stance

Xinhua, November 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

The seventh conference of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah party kick off in West Bank city of Ramallah Tuesday, with the participation of 1400 members.

The opening session commenced with the national anthem and checking the quorum. The session is expected to vote a president of the conference, a deputy and session rapporteurs.

A session will host Palestinian, Arab and European delegations as visitors to the official opening, followed by an address by President Abbas.

Fatah Central Committee spokesperson Nabil Abu Rdeinah said that Abbas's address "will include a clear vision for the coming phase towards independence, liberty and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital."

This would be the second conference that Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah party holds inside the Palestinian territories. The last one was held in Bethlehem city in 2009 after 20 years of not being held at all.

The conference spokesman Mahmoud Abu Al-Haija told Xinhua Monday that 97 percent of the conference members are already in Ramallah. Endit
