The following are highlights of South African major news outlets on Friday:

-- Minerals and Energy Minister Mosebenzi Zwane must go, labour federation Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) said on Thursday.

COSATU has slated Zwane for allegedly sowing division and failing to lead. (News24).

-- Although the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) kept interest rates unchanged on Thursday, there's a meaningful chance they could go up in the first half of 2017, according to Nomura economist Peter Attard Montalto.

At SARB's monetary policy committee (MPC) briefing, Reserve Bank governor Lesetja Kganyago said the higher than expected headline inflation of 6.4 percent and increased volatility since the U.S. elections -- including statements of protectionism -- could cause even more rand volatility. (Fin24)

-- Friday is the second and the last day of the public hearings taking place at the Johannesburg City Hall in Gauteng on South Africa's policies since 1994.

This is in line with the decision that was taken by parliament in January to appoint a panel to assess the effectiveness of the legislation that has been passed by Parliament and the Provincial Legislatures since 1994. (South African Broadcasting Corporation) Endit
