Turkey dismisses over 10,000 personnel in post-coup probe

Turkey on Tuesday dismissed more than 10,000 personnel with the military, police and other public institutions in ongoing investigations over a failed coup in July, according to the website of the official gazette.

The suspects are allegedly linked to the Fetullah Gulen Movement, which is accused of orchestrating the July 15 coup attempt in Turkey.

Under the latest decree, 1,259 personnel from the Land Forces Command, 391 from the Naval Forces Command, and 338 from the Air Force Command have been sacked from the army.

A total of 403 people have been also dismissed from the Gendarmerie General Command while 7,586 police officers have been fired from the Security General Directorate.

Other 157 public officials who had been dismissed as part of the terror probe have returned to their posts.

Also, at least 550 non-governmental organizations, 19 private health institutions and nine press organizations have been shut down.

The move comes under a state of emergency, which was imposed following the failed coup attempt and extended for another three months until January.

Meanwhile, warrants were issued early Tuesday for 60 air force staff, including pilots, in the anti-terror investigation, Anadolu Agency reported. Endit
