EU offers condolences after 8 killed in car bomb attack in Turkey

The European Union (EU) on Friday expressed condolences to the families of the victims killed in a car bomb attack on Friday in southeastern Turkey.

"We express our condolences to the families of the victims killed and wish a speedy recovery to those injured," a spokesperson of the European External Action Service (EEAS) said in a statement.

Eight people, including two policemen, were killed and more than 100 others wounded on Friday in a bomb attack in Turkey's southeastern city of Diyarbakir, Turkish news agency Dogan reported.

A car bomb used by Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) militants went off outside a branch of the counter-terror and riot police in the Baglar district of Diyarbakir, the report said.

The EU considers the PKK to be a terrorist organization and significant action has been taken against it in the EU in recent years and months, the EEAS spokesperson noted.

The EU has been very disquieted by the ongoing violence in southeastern Turkey over the last 12 months, the spokesperson said. Endit
