Kyrgyz parliament forms new majority coalition

Xinhua, November 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

The parliament of Kyrgyzstan announced on Thursday the creation of a new majority coalition, the press service of the Kyrgyz Parliament confirmed to Xinhua on Friday.

The coalition of the parliamentary majority included three factions: the Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan (SDPK) faction (36 seats), Kyrgyzstan (18 seats) and Bir Bol (12 seats).

Thus, the total number of members of the coalition is 68.

The new coalition will be headed by a member of parliament from SDPK faction, Isa Omurkulov.

The press service quoted Omurkulov as saying during the session of the Parliament that Acting Prime Minister Sooronbay Zheenbekov is nominated for the post of Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The previous coalition of the parliamentary majority, which was formed on Nov. 2, 2015, collapsed on Oct. 23 due to the withdrawal of the SDPK faction from the coalition because of contradictions with other coalition members.

The former coalition consisted of four factions: the SDPK, Kyrgyzstan, Onuguu-Progress, and Ata Meken. Endi
