S. African stocks close weaker Friday

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange closed weaker on Friday with jitters over the U.S. elections.

Commodity prices were higher, with gold 0.1 percent up at 1,304.69 U.S. dollars an ounce and platinum rose 0.8 percent to 1000.83 U.S. dollars an ounce.

At the close, all share was 1.1 percent lower at 49,686.1 points and the blue-chip top 40 was also 1.1 percent lower. Resources led the losers, down 1.3 percent. Platinums lost 2.66 percent, banks was 1.69 percent lower and the gold index lost 0.01 percent.

Among individual shares on the JSE, Anglo American dropped 1.47 percent to R181.75. Sasol shed 2.02 percent to R363.

Richemont rose 8.05 percent to R94.25. The global luxury goods group reported interim sales to end September decreased by 13 percent at actual exchange rates to 5.55 billion U.S. dollars and by 12 percent at constant exchange rates. Endit
