UN chief calls for probe into attacks against civilians in Syria

Xinhua, October 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for "an immediate and impartial investigation" into attacks that killed 36 students and teachers in a school complex in Haas village, Idlib governorate in Syria on Wednesday.

The UN chief "is appalled" by the reports of the incident, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters here Thursday, adding "If deliberate, this attack may amount to a war crime."

"If such horrific acts persist despite global outrage, it is largely because their authors, whether in corridors of power or in insurgent redoubts, do not fear justice," Dujarric said. "They must be proved wrong."

Air strikes were staged on a school in Syria's rebel-held Idlib governorate that killed 36 people, including 22 children, reports said. Enditem
