Belarus calls EAEC to intensify work on removing all barriers

Xinhua, October 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

Belarusian Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov on Thursday urged countries - members of the Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC) to intensify work on the removal of all barriers for access to each other's markets.

"If you do not remove the existing barriers to the union level, this union will be weak," - Kobyakov said at a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in expanded format in Minsk, adding that such an alliance would not be able to protect the interests of economic entities, even within themselves, saying nothing of the protection beyond the borders.

Kobyakov also said that about four dozen states had expressed interest in cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union in different formats, including large countries like China and India.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that the EAEC is developing steadily despite the adverse economic conditions. He stressed the need to reduce the gap in the implementation of the decisions taken by the top management of the EAEC member states.

The Russian prime minister also stressed the need to further eliminate obstacles to the four freedoms and the common space without exceptions, barriers and restrictions.

According to local media, the participants of the Council also discussed the draft of the new Customs Code of the Eurasian Economic Union, the draft budget of the union in 2017, progress on the international activities of the Eurasian Economic Commission, as well as some aspects of trade policy.
