IMF starts first review of Jordan's economy

Xinhua, October 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

A mission from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) arrived in Jordan on Tuesday to start its first review of the country's economy, according to a government statement.

The mission will discuss with Jordanian officials from the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Jordan on a lending arrangement worth 700 million U.S. dollars, Minister of Finance Omar Malhas said in the statement.

The minister said the visit is part of the arrangement and aims to assess all relevant measures.

In July, Jordan signed a letter of intent with the IMF to borrow 700 million dollars through its Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program.

In August 2015, Jordan completed a three-year IMF Stand-By Arrangement in the amount of nearly 2 billion dollars. Endit
