Bangladesh economy records 7.11 pct growth in 2015-16 fiscal year

Bangladesh economy grew at a faster-than-expected 7.05 percent in the last 2015-16 fiscal year (July 2015-June 2016) helped by stronger industrial performance.
"Bangladesh economy grew by 7.11 percent in the previous financial year," Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal told the press in Dhaka on Tuesday.
According to the minister, growth in the agriculture was recorded at 2.79 percent, industry at 11.09 percent, and the service sector at 6.25 percent.
Bangladesh's GDP is now reportedly worth 221 billion U.S. dollars.
Bangladeshi parliament on June 30 this year passed 3.41 trillion taka (42.58 billion U.S. dollars) national budget for 2016-17 fiscal year, targeting an economic growth of 7.2 percent.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith in his budget speech in June this year said GDP growth was expected to edge up to 7.05 percent in the outgoing 2015-16 fiscal year (July 2015-June 2016).
Muhith had then also said that per capita income was expected to increase to 1,466 U.S. dollars.
During the last 2015-16 fiscal year, Kamal said Tuesday that the per capita income reached 1,465 U.S. dollars. Endit
