Ukraine flag air carrier plans to double fleet by 2021

Xinhua, October 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) plans to more than double its fleet within five years, the press service of the company said Tuesday.

UIA, Ukraine's flagship air carrier, which now has 39 planes in its fleet, will increase the number of aircraft to 91 by 2021, said a statement on the company's website.

The air carrier aims to expand its route network as a result of new ticketing platforms and the implementation of a new revenue management system, the statement said.

The company estimates that the expansion of the fleet would allow passenger traffic to increase by more than four-fold to about 20 million passengers per year by 2021.

Last year, UIA, which flies from its hub Boryspil International Airport in Kiev, carried 4.8 million passengers.

The airline currently operates over 700 domestic and international flights per week, with non-stop services from Ukraine to 40 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas.

In April 2015, UIA launched its first non-stop flight from Kiev to Beijing. Endi
