Bai Yun, a former senior official in north China's Shanxi Province, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for accepting bribes amounting to 17.81 million yuan (2.64 million U.S. dollars) by a court in Jiangsu Province on Wednesday.
Personal assets worth 2 million yuan belonging to Bai, former member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Shanxi Provincial Committee, were confiscated, according to the verdict by the Nantong City Intermediate People's Court.
Her ill-gotten gains must be turned over to the state, the court ruled.
The court found that Bai, also former head of the United Front Work Department of the provincial committee of the CPC, took advantage of her various positions to seek profits for others in corporate restructuring, contracting projects, and job promotions and transfers between 2004 and 2013.
The court issued a lesser punishment as Bai admitted her crimes and voluntarily turned over her illicit gains.
Bai was expelled from the CPC in February 2015 after an internal Party investigation found she had accepted bribes.
Also on Wednesday, the court sentenced Nie Chunyu, former secretary-general of the provincial committee of the CPC, to 15 years in prison for accepting bribes. Endi
