Spain's consumer prices rise by 0.2 pct in Sept

Spain's consumer prices rose by 0.2 percent in September when compared with the same month of a year earlier, according to data of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) released on Friday by Spain's Statistical Office (INE).
The figure is 0.3 percent higher than that of August, when the country's prices had fallen by 0.1 percent. This is the first time that Spain's annual inflation rate is positive since December, 2015.
Prices of transport experienced no variation compared with a year ago, those of items related to housing fell by 2.8 percent and those related to the hotel industry rose by 1.1 percent.
Prices of food and non-alcoholic drinks and those of items related to leisure and culture rose by 0.8 percent and fell by 1.5 percent respectively.
The INE also reported that on a month-to-month basis the inflation rate was 0 percent. Prices of clothes and shoes rose by 5.1 percent from August to September, those of transport rose by 0.6 percent and those of items related to housing rose by 0.5 percent.
Meanwhile, prices of items related to leisure and culture fell by 4.1 percent, prices of food and non-alcoholic drinks fell by 0.9 percent and those of hotels, cafes and restaurants fell by 0.2 percent.
Spain's State Secretary of Economy, Inigo Fernandez de Mesa, said the CPI confirmed prices were stable in Spain and highlighted that the country's economy was growing by around 3 percent, "which is a strong growth rate," he said. Endit
