Kenya hikes fuel retail prices

Xinhua, October 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

Kenya's energy industry regulator on Friday increased retail prices for fuel while it reduced prices for kerosene and diesel by different margins in the latest monthly price review.

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) said the price of petrol will from midnight increase by 0.17 shillings to 0.92 U.S. dollars a liter, diesel will reduce by 0.34 shillings to 0.82 dollars while kerosene will cost 0.39 shillings less to 0.59 dollars per liter.

The energy regulator attributed the variation in the price movements of petrol and diesel to different import costs of the commodities when the stocks were purchased.

The ERC said the changes in this month's prices have been as a result of the average landed cost of imported super petrol increasing by 0.81 percent from 475.48 dollars per tonne in August to 479.33 dollars per tonne in September.

According to the ERC, diesel decreased by 1.31 percent from 441.19 dollars per tonne to 435.07 dollars per tonne and kerosene declined by 4.14 percent from 451.77 dollars per tonne to 433.97 dollars per tonne. Endit
