The general elections to be held on Dec. 11 in Macedonia are a key step to solving the political deadlock, Macedonian Prime Minister Emil Dimitriev said Friday.
Hosting the Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn in Skopje, Dimitriev said the interim government in Macedonia has made all efforts to hold credible elections.
These elections will pave the way for the creation of a political government based on the will of the voters, he added.
Another important topic discussed during the meeting was the importance and necessity of Macedonia becoming a member of the European Union, the prime minister's press office stated.
Addressing the migrant crisis, Hahn commended Macedonia for its treatment and approach noting the country had played a key role while addressing the challenges of the migrant wave.
Hahn called for free, fair and democratic elections noting that they should be well-prepared so that no one criticizes them afterwards, local media reported.
However, he noted that the elections are the first step as political parties have to cooperate in implementing the reforms and serve citizens' interests. Endit
