Police gun down eight militants in eastern Pakistan

Xinhua, October 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Eight militants were killed during an armed operation by police anti-terrorism team in Punjab Province in east Pakistan, officials said Friday.

An armed police team launched a search operation following an intelligence tip-off in Shujaabad town in Dera Ghazi Khan district, a spokesperson of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of police said.

The notice said that the militants were planning to target gatherings of Shia Muslims in the province.

During the operation, the militants hurled hand grenades at police, who responded with firing.

"The CTD team retaliated in self-defense. When the firing stopped, eight terrorists were found dead," the spokesperson said. Enditem
