The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Friday.

-- The Zambian government said there are no political prisoners in any of the correctional centers and has warned politicians not to incite people to rise against the government.

Minister of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo said some of the politicians currently in detention in the aftermath of the August 11 general elections were there due to serious criminal charges.

He said out of 87 suspects arrested because of political violence, 77 are appearing before the courts while 10 who were arrested in western Zambia have been discharged. (Times of Zambia)

-- Authorities in eastern Zambia's Chama district have contained an anthrax outbreak which affected over 50 people. The people got the disease after consuming infected hippo meat.

According to local authorities, out of all the people who were infected, only four are still receiving treatment. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- Police in Zambia have warned and cautioned a television proprietor in connection with a leaked government document that was aired on the television channel.

Gerald Shawa, managing director of the privately-owned Prime Television and his station manager Makokwa Kozi were summoned by the police in Lusaka, in connection with a footage aired on the station on a government secret document.

Zambia police acting spokesperson Esther Katongo said the duo were warned and cautioned after interrogation for the offense of communication of certain information.(Daily Nation) Endit
