The British government said on Thursday that the country will not extend military involvement in Syria, refuting an earlier comment by British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.
A spokesman for British Prime Minister Theresa May said late Thursday that there are no new plans for military action.
"We are working with the international community to look at how to bring the conflict to an end," the spokesman said.
The British government has been involved in bombing raids against the Islamic State in Syria since lawmakers voted for air strikes at the end of last year.
The latest government comment came hours after Johnson said Britain was looking again at its military involvement.
But the foreign secretary said that any action would need to be part of a coalition involving the United States.
Johnson made the remarks giving evidence to the Commons Foreign Affairs Committee while stressing that it was time to consider "more kinetic options," including military options. Endit
