Tokyo shares close lower on firm yen

Tokyo shares closed lower Thursday on the firm yen against the U.S. dollar.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 65.76 points, or 0.39 percent, from Wednesday at 16,774.24.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 0.04 point lower at 1,342.31.

Gainers were led by nonferrous metal and miscellaneous product issues, while decliners were led by oil and coal product, and marine transportation issues.

The day's turnover was around 1,890.6 billion yen (18.22 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
