Fiji looks to Chinese drones to curb serious crimes

Fiji is very interested in acquiring drones from China in a bid to step up its fight against the rise in serious crimes, leading local newspaper Fiji Sun reported Thursday.

Brig. Gen. Sitiveni Qiliho, commissioner of the Fiji Police Force made the comments during a meeting of the Pacific island nation's National Board of Crime Stoppers earlier this week, according to the Fiji Sun.

Qiliho, who had just returned from a China visit, said he had talks with Chinese officials over the acquisition of drones to step up efforts to fight against serious crimes.

The Chinese government has already provided surveillance cameras, which will be set up in Suva City and connected to the Fiji Police Force command center, according to Qiliho.

Aside from helping curb serious crimes, he said, drones could also be used at night to help the Fiji Police Force with investigations. Endit
