South Korea is mulling standalone sanctions against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) over its fifth nuclear test if discussion is prolonged on a new UN Security Council resolution, Yonhap news agency reported on Wednesday citing a government source.
A South Korean government source was quoted as saying that Seoul has a principle to announce its unilateral sanctions toward Pyongyang at a time when the new sanctions can maximize the effect of pressure on the DPRK. (S.Korea-DPRK-Sanctions)

MOSCOW -- The Russian Defense Ministry denied Wednesday accusations of British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson of Russia's involvement in bombing a humanitarian convoy in Syria's city of Aleppo on Sept. 19.
"There were no Russian aircraft in the area of the humanitarian convoy in Aleppo. It is a fact," the ministry's spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said in a statement. (Russia-Syria-Convoy)

ABUJA -- At least eight people died Wednesday morning when a bomb exploded near a local motor park in Nigeria's northeastern city of Maiduguri, capital of Borno State, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said.

MAZAR-E-SHARIF, Afghanistan -- At least six people were killed and 36 others injured as a suicide bomber blew himself up next to a group of Ashura mourners in the north Afghanistan Wednesday, a local official said.
