Xinhua, October 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

An aeronautical multinational exercise "NEMESIS 2016" took place on Wednesday for the third consecutive year within the Exclusive Economic Zone of Cyprus.

Cypriot defense minister Christoforos Fokaides said in a statement there was increased participation of important states such as the United States, France, Britain, Greece and Egypt, and the International Civil Aviation Organization's task force on search and rescue issues is also participating in the exercise.

The main objective of the exercise is to further develop the effective cooperation and coordination of Cypriot agencies with other countries on response on emergency situations, as well as other humanitarian operations in the Eastern Mediterranean region, Fokaides said.

The exercise scenario includes boarding operations by navy vessels and special forces, counter-terrorism operations on an oil or gas platform, mass rescue operations following a maritime accident by naval and air units. Endit
