Gaza rocket hits southern Israeli city

A rocket fired from the Gaza Strip hit a southern Israeli city on Wednesday morning, Israeli police said.

Police spokeswoman Luba Samri said the rocket fell in the center of the city of Sderot, near the separation fence that surrounds Gaza, causing no injuries.

This is the first such incident in nearly two months, she added.

Local media reported that damage was caused to the road which the rocket hit and to a car. A few people were treated for hysteria.

The incident occurred as the Israeli army was preparing to take over a women flotilla heading to the besieged Palestinian enclave.

The Jerusalem Post reported that the Israeli army will not allow the flotilla to arrive in Gaza and the navy was "set to escort" the ship to the Ashdod port in southern Israel.

At least 230 Palestinians and 34 Israelis have been killed since the start of the Palestinian unrest in mid-September 2015.

Israel's last massive military campaign in the Palestinian enclave lasted from July 8 to Aug. 26, 2014, claiming the lives of at least 2,251 Palestinians, mostly civilians, and 72 Israelis, mostly soldiers.

Since then, Gaza rockets occasionally hit the Jewish state, with Israeli air raids in response. Endit
