Lopetegui names squad for vital World Cup matches

Xinhua, October 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Spain coach Julen Lopetegui has made five changes when he named his second squad since replacing Vicente del Bosque at the head of the Spanish national team.

Spain play two vital World Cup qualifying games on October 6th away to Italy and on October 9th in Albania, with the Italy game perhaps the most difficult in Spain' s campaign to reach the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia.

Lopetegui has welcomed back Andres Iniesta after injury, while giving recalls to Real Madrid duo Nacho Fernandez and Isco, Napoles striker Jose Callejon and Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico.

Meanwhile Adrian and Mark Bartra both miss out through injury, while Cesar Azpilicueta, Juan Mata and Paco Alcacer lose their places and Marcos Asensio will play with the Under-21 side.

There is still no place in the squad for veteran goalkeeper, Iker Casillas and Chelsea midfielder, Cesc Fabrigas.

Squad:

Goalkeepers: David de Gea (Manchester United), Pepe Reina (Nápoles) and Sergio Rico (Sevilla).

Defenders: Jordi Alba (Barcelona), Gerard Pique (Barcelona), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Dani Carvajal (Real Madrid), Sergi Roberto (Barcelona), Nacho (Real Madrid) and Javi Martínez (Bayern).

Midfielders: Sergio Busquets (Barcelona), David Silva (Manchester City), Thiago Alcántara (Bayern), Saúl Níguez (Atlético Madrid), Koke (Atlético Madrid), Isco (Real Madrid) and Iniesta (Barcelona).

Forwards: Alvaro Morata (Real Madrid), Lucas Vazquez (Real Madrid), Nolito (Manchester City), Callejon (Nápoles), Diego Costa (Chelsea) and Vitolo (Sevilla). Endit
