Nobel Prize in Literature to be announced later than expected: reports

Xinhua, October 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

While hopes were high that the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature would be announced Thursday next week, literature fans will have to wait until Oct. 13, local media reported Friday.

Unlike the other Nobel prizes, the annual announcement of the literature laureate does not have a set date.

"According to the statues we are to convene in the second last Thursday of September and that occurred unusually late this year," Swedish Academy member Per Wastberg told Swedish Television on Friday.

Wastberg said that the Academy, which selects the winner, needs four Thursdays to meet. Following a test vote on the third Thursday, after the candidates have been presented, the Academy meets again to make their announcement.

Wastberg declined to comment on whether the Academy has agreed on a winner yet. Endit
