Journalist shot dead in Somali capital

Unidentified gunmen on Tuesday evening shot dead a radio journalist in Somali capital Mogadishu, officials said.

Abdiaziz Mohamed Ali Haji, who hosted a morning news program for privately-run Radio Shabelle, was killed by armed attackers at sunset in Yaqshid district, Mogadishu.

Somali Minister of Information Mohamed Abdi Hayer strongly condemned the murder, vowing that the perpetrators will not escape justice.

"I share the sadness with families and friends of the assassinated journalist; the government condemns the attack in the strongest terms. Security forces will pursue those behind the killing of the journalist and bring them to justice," Hayer said.

Somalia is considered to be one of the worst areas for journalists. Two months ago, a female reporter working for the state radio station was killed in Mogadishu. Enditem
