Three Egyptian police personnel and one civilian were shot dead by unidentified attackers in Arish, in the country's restive North Sinai, official news agency MENA reported on Wednesday.

The three police officers were travelling in a taxi when they came attack. The civilian victim was the vehicle's driver.

A manhunt was underway for the attackers.

Egypt has been battling a rising wave of terror attacks since the removal of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.

A Sinai-based militant group loyal to the Islamic State (IS) terror group has claimed responsibility for most of the terrorist attacks that killed hundreds of police and military men over the past few years.

A continuous, massive security campaign in Sinai has resulted in the killing of about 1,000 militants and the arrest of nearly as many suspects. Endit
