China-Eurasia Expo to further boost Russia-China cooperation: Russian ministry

Xinhua, September 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

The fifth China-Eurasia Expo, which opened Tuesday in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, will help further boost cooperation between Russia and China, Russian Industry and Trade Ministry has said.

"Traditionally, the China-Eurasia exhibition offers the best products, investment projects, and demonstrates the tourism potential of China and Eurasian countries, thus serving as an important platform for the expansion of comprehensive cooperation between China and Russia," the ministry said in a written reply to Xinhua's questions.

As Russia-China relations were characterized by maturity and stability, it said, they were constantly developing at a high level, and have been experiencing the best period in their entire history.

Exhibitions and fairs contribute greatly to the development of economic relations between the two countries, it added.

One of the key themes of the exhibition will be the discussion of China's Belt and Road Initiative.

The initiative, which includes the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, was unveiled by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013.

It brings together countries in Asia, Europe and Africa, with the purpose of boosting infrastructure building, financial cooperation and cultural exchanges across those regions.

In 2015, Xi and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to align the Belt and Road Initiative with the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union.

The Russian ministry believes that the initiatives of both countries will bring great opportunity for the economic development of countries involved.

"We are certain that the parties will spare no effort to promote innovation, advance practical cooperation in all areas, improve the quality and volume of bilateral trade, which in turn will increase the comprehensive strength and international competitiveness of them," said the ministry.

More than 2,000 Chinese and foreign companies, delegates from 57 countries and regions, and six global organizations are participating in the six-day fair held in the regional capital of Urumqi.

A total of 15 ministerial forums and activities will be held, with about 200 domestic and foreign ministerial-level guests set to attend the event, according to organizers. Endi
