Two French men under investigation over ties with IS extremist

Xinhua, September 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

French prosecutors on Wednesday placed two men under formal investigation over links with Islamic State militant Rachid Kassim who is said to have guided terrorist plots in France from Syria, news channel BFMTV reported Wednesday.

The two suspects, aged 30 and 39, were arrested last Friday in eastern city of Dole and Roanna in central France. They were charged with "association with criminals in relation with a terrorist enterprise."

The report said both had been in contact with Kassim in Syria who has used Telegram, the encrypted messaging service, to call for more attacks in France.

Investigation into two foiled attacks earlier this month in the French capital showed that the 29-year-old man directed two minors to conduct "violent acts" and also guided a female commando to attack train stations and police in Paris.

Police has arrested 293 individuals on links with terrorist networks so far, according to Interior Minister Bernrad Cazeneuve. Endit
