Caspian states hold joint sea rescue drills

Xinhua, September 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

The emergency departments of Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran are jointly holding sea rescue drills in the Caspian Sea, the Russian Emergencies Ministry said Wednesday.

The drills, involving more than 600 personnel and around 100 pieces of equipment, will last until Thursday, the ministry said in a statement.

The participants will rehearse joint actions in rescue operations at sea in natural and man-made emergencies, including putting out fire on vessels in high seas, clearing oil spills and detecting underwater objects in emergency zones, it added.

The drills are expected to be followed on Thursday by a conference to be held in the southern Russian city of Astrakhan to discuss personnel protection from disasters in the Caspian Sea region. Endi
