A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) leader on Wednesday called on the Chinese people to learn from the country's athletes who had competed in the 2016 Paralympic Games in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.

Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks during a meeting with the Chinese delegation for the Rio Paralympics at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing Wednesday afternoon.

Liu said the Paralympic delegation have demonstrated the Olympic spirit and the spirit of Chinese sports during the Sept. 7-18 Games, where China won 107 gold, 81 silver and 51 bronze medals to top the medals table.

Liu praised the athletes for promoting the Paralympic movement and bringing glory to the country.

"The whole nation are inspired by not only the medals you have won, but also the 'never- give-up' spirit that you have shown," said Liu.

"The spirit can be transformed into huge impetus in our efforts to realize national rejuvenation," he added. Endit
