Czech police leave for Macedonia to help guard border

Xinhua, September 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

Forty Czech police officers left for Macedonia on Monday to replace their colleagues, who were sent there in early August to protect the country's border amid a migrant crisis.

The police make up the fifth contingent of its kind from the Czech Republic. They will stay in Macedonia until the end of October.

Macedonia highly regards the friendly assistance and support the Czech Republic extends to Macedonia at the time of a migrant crisis, said Macedonian ambassador to the Czech Republic Paskal Stojcheski.

Stojcheski said his country will fully support these officers in their work.

Czech police will work together with their Macedonian counterparts to guard its border. Most of them will be deployed at Gevgelija, a town near a temporary camp for refugees in Greece's Idomeni. In May, Greece vacated the camp because of its bad sanitary conditions. Endit
