Eurostat to assist Albania's Instat with agricultural statistics

Xinhua, September 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

The agriculture sector has marked its highest growth rate in recent years, turning into the locomotive of the Albanian economy, but this growth has to be reported correctly and objectively, Albanian minister of agriculture and rural development Edmond Panariti declared Wednesday.

Panariti made the comments during a meeting with Eurostat director Pieter Everaers here to discuss agricultural statistics, the methodology of data collection in the field, the authenticity of the data reported by farmers, the functioning of the entire system of data collection, their processing and official releasing.

While briefing the head of Eurostat on the current situation in Albania, Panariti stressed the need to have objective and accurate statistical data, saying this data was the basis on which the government built its development policies.

The Albanian minister therefore asked Eurostat to assist his country in defining the best and most appropriate methodologies for the Albanian reality.

Everaers assured Panariti Eurostat would provide its full support. Endit
