(Special for CAFS) Zambia's exports to Mozambique rise

Zambia has seen a rise in value of exports to neighboring Mozambique in the last five years, the country's investment agency said on Friday.

The Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) said exports to Mozambique have risen from 40 million U.S. dollars to 78 million dollars in the last five years.

The highest value of exports was recorded in 2011 while the lowest was recorded last year, the investment agency said in a statement.

Jonathan Simwanza, ZDA's export development director, said Zambia has mainly been exporting iron and steel, cereals, plastics, cosmetics, sugar, maize, beverages and explosives to Mozambique.

Zambia will re-assess the market in Mozambique and identify more opportunities in order to increase the exports further, he said.

Zambia is currently participating at this year's Maputo International Trade Fair which started on Monday and ends on Sunday. The Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry is leading eight companies from various sectors showcasing their products at the fair.

"The trade fair is a multi-sector international exhibition which attracts other international exhibitors, creating a platform for Zambian companies to engage with potential importers for Mozambique and other countries," Simwanza said. Endit
