Tokyo shares close higher on firm oil prices

Tokyo shares closed higher Friday on firm oil prices, though remained capped by the stronger yen.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 59.81 points, or 0.36 percent, from Thursday at 16,545.82.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 4.88 points, or 0.38 percent, higher at 1,295.67.

Gainers were led by mining, iron and steel, and insurance issues.

The day's turnover was about 2,000.1 billion yen (around 19.98 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
