For the first time, two blonde women from Australia's Queensland have been hired as cabin crew members for Malaysia's AirAsia.
News Corp reported on Thursday that Queenslanders Chloe Markham and Hayley Austin were the first Aussie cabin crew to be hired by the airline in an effort to broaden its appeal to travelers.
The young women will work on flights between Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and the Australian ports of Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, and also on other Asian routes.
AirAsia X chief executive Benyamin Ismail said more Aussie cabin crew would be joining Chloe and Hayley in the near future.
"Our guests from around the world are pleased to see Australians among our crew members who mostly hail from Asia," said Ismail.
"They receive a lot of compliments from all our passengers and obviously Australians feel right at home with them on board," he said.
The report said both flight attendants have enjoyed "rock star" treatment from passengers awed by their blonde hair and fair skin.
Austin said some of the passengers from Hangzhou and Taipei flights had filmed her, especially during safety demonstrations.
"They Snapchat pictures of me because they haven't seen Australians working on the flights before," she said. "Passengers are usually used to seeing attendants from Asian countries on AirAsia flights." Enditem
