A roadside bomb blast killed at least two Pakistan security personnel in the Bajaur tribal region on Tuesday, the military said.
The outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility.
"Two soldiers Mushtaq and Khurshid embraced shahdat (martyrdom) in an Improvised Explosive Device attack in Bajaur today,"the army's Inter-Services Public Relations said.
Taliban spokesman Muhammad Khorasani said the group carried out the attack through a planted device.
The TTP had once used Bajaur that borders Afghanistan as one of their strong bases, however, the security forces cleared the areas of the militants in major operation in 2008-2009.
Officials said some Taliban have crossed the border into Afghanistan and launched the attacks from there.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned the IED attack on security personnel in Bajaur Agency.
"These cowardly attacks show that terrorists are on retreat, these terrorists are using such tactics because they cannot sustain the wrath of our valiant forces who always lead from the front,"Sharif said in a statement.
The prime minister expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of two precious lives in the attack. He prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls and grant of courage to the bereaved families to bear the irreparable loss. Endit
