Low trading at Nairobi bourse as local investors dominate

Some 16 million shares valued at 3.3 million U.S. dollars were traded at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) Tuesday in a session dominated by local investors at 55 percent.

Leading telecom Safaricom was the top mover Tuesday, trading 5.3 million shares at a marginal rise of 0.20 dollars.

Scangroup, in the commercial and services sector, moved 4.8 million shares at 0.15 dollars that like Safaricom were mainly foreign inflows.

The energy and petroleum sector had 2.8 million shares traded, with Kenya Power moving a volume of 2.5 million shares at 0.08 dollars, mainly local sales.

In the banking sector, some 2.6 million shares were traded, with Kenya Commercial Bank actively attracting foreign sales on 1.7 million shares at 0.32 dollars.

Equity Bank was unchanged at 0.38 dollars to move 439,000 shares while Cooperative Bank moved 265,000 shares at 0.14 dollars.

The benchmark NSE 20 Share Index for the second consecutive day went down Tuesday at 4.50 points to stand at 3459.10.

On the other hand, the All Share Index edged 0.19 points higher to stand at 143.63, while the NSE 25 Share Index was down 3.51 points to settle at 3,930.75.

At the bonds market, turnover went down 54 percent to 7.6 million dollars. Enditem
