EU dispatches 56-short-term observation team for Zambia's election

Xinhua, August 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

The European Union (EU) on Monday deployed 56 short-term observers for Zambia's general elections scheduled for Thursday this week.

The short-term observation team will complement 24 long-term observers and its core team that had been in the country since June 29.

The short-term observers, who arrived last Friday, will be deployed to all the country's 10 provinces.

Cecile Kyenge, head of the mission said the deployment of such a huge number of observers was to ensure that more people are on the ground.

The observers will closely obtain reliable information on how voting, counting and tabulation will be conducted.

The observer team, she said, will be complemented by staff from member countries with offices in Zambia, bringing the total number of observers to more than 120.

According to her, the initial findings of the mission would be presented to stakeholders in Zambia while a comprehensive final report, two months after the end of the electoral process. Endit
