Indian military's trainer jet crashes in West Bengal

A trainer aircraft of Indian Air Force (IAF) Thursday crashed minutes after it took off in eastern state of West Bengal, local media reports said.

Two pilots inside the jet ejected safely.

The Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer took off from Kalaikunda air force base in West Midnapore, about 129 km west of Kolkata city, the capital of West Bengal.

"The jet crashed around 11:00 a.m (local time) inside the boundary of the base minutes after taking off," a local media report said.

The IAF according to reports has ordered an inquiry into the crash.

Last month, an Indian Air Force aircraft AN-32 with 29 officials on board went missing over Bay of Bengal after its takeoff from southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The aircraft destined to Port Blair city, the capital of archipelago of Andaman and Nicobar lost communication and vanished mysteriously.

Despite hectic searches, so far no signs about its debris or oil slick on the sea surface were traced. Endit
