Niger arrests two suspected Boko Haram suppliers

Nigerien army said Wednesday it had arrested two individuals suspected of supplying equipment to Boko Haram terror group in the southeast region of Diffa, near the border with Nigeria.

After a mop-up operation that was launched last Thursday in Doutsi and Damasak localities in Nigeria, the two were arrested in Diffa, transporting 22 cans each containing 25 liters of petrol.

Hahabi Sani, head of the operation, said their cargo that was being taken to terrorist group was also seized.

In the last few days, the Multinational Joint Force that is comprised of troops from Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon launched a massive operation in Nigeria, aimed at eliminating the terrorist group.

Boko Haram, which has launched attacks since 2009 in northern Nigeria, has extended attacks to other neighbouring states of Niger, Cameroon and Chad.

The group's attacks have left over 20,000 people dead and displaced over 2 million others within the affected countries. Endit
