Russia suspends imports of fruit, vegetables from Bosnia and Herzegovina

Russia on Thursday imposed a temporary ban on fruits and vegetables imported from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to Rosselkhoznadzor, Russia's agricultural watchdog, the ban was imposed because of the dramatic increase in products with "high phytosanitary risk" imported from Bosnia and Herzegovina to Russia.

Importing products from Bosnia and Herzegovina to Russia via third countries is also not allowed.

In 2014, some Western countries led by the European Union (EU), the United States and Canada imposed economic sanctions on Russia because of the Ukraine crisis. Russia in turn introduced a food embargo on products from the United States, the EU, Canada, Australia and Norway later in the year.

In late June this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin extended the ban until Dec. 31, 2017 in response to the six-month extension of economic sanctions the EU imposed on Russia after assessing Russia's implementation of the ceasefire agreements over Ukraine. Endi
