Drug busts, arrests in Cambodia remarkably up in H1

The number of drug cases and people arrested for drug crimes in Cambodia has remarkably increased during the first six months of 2016, a senior police official said on Thursday.

General Meas Vyrith, secretary-general of the National Authority for Combating Drugs, said that police dealt with 2,158 drug cases during the January-June period this year, up 116 percent from 998 cases over the same period last year.

He added during the first half of this year, some 5,266 people were arrested in those cases, up 169 percent from only 1,959 people over the same period last year.

The official said that most types of drugs seized during the raids were crystal methamphetamine, methamphetamine pills, cocaine and heroin. Endit
