German unemployment declines in July

Unemployment in Germany continued to decline in July despite concerns about Brexit, official data showed on Thursday.

Adjusted for calendar and seasonal swings, the number of employed people declined by 7,000 to 2.682 million in July, following a drop of 6,000 in June, said German Federal Labor Agency.

"The labor market developed well in July," said Frank-Juergen Weise, head of the labor agency.

Jobless rate remained unchanged at 6.1 percent, the lowest level since Germany's reunification in 1990.

An earlier survey by GfK institute found that despite concerns about the economic uncertainty resulted by Britain's decision to leave the European Union, 95 percent of employees in Germany said they were not currently worried about their job. Just 3 percent were inclined to believe their workplace is at risk.

A separate report from German federal statistics office on Thursday showed that, measured by standards of International Labor Organization, Germany's unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.2 percent in June. Endit
