Iran dismisses France's UN envoy remarks: spokesman

Xinhua, July 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman rejected the recent remarks by French envoy to the United Nations about Tehran's missile activities and its regional policies, Press TV reported on Wednesday.

Addressing a UN Security Council's meeting in New York on Monday, the French envoy François Delattre expressed concerns over what he called several "destabilizing" actions by Iran, including Iran's Middle East policies and its testing of ballistic missiles "capable of carrying nuclear weapons."

"It is important, for regional stability, Iran to abstain from any destabilizing and dangerous activities," Delattre was quoted as saying.

"Such biased remarks are devoid of truth and are aimed at covering up France broad interference in Syria's affairs which has inflicted heavy human and financial losses on the Syrian people," Iran's spokesman Bahram Qasemi said.

"The Islamic republic has always supported reforms in Syria and the cessation of violence, and it regards holding national dialogue as the solution to the country's crisis," he said, adding that some countries equipping armed groups are responsible for further complicating and escalating the crisis in Syria.

Iran is ready to fully cooperate with its neighboring countries and the international community to fight common global threat of extremism and terrorism, he added.

Besides, "Iran's military capabilities, including missiles, have not been designed to carry nuclear weapons and are not within the jurisdiction of the Security Council's resolutions and their annexes." Endit
