Armed man hiding in southern France hotel, motives unknown: report

An armed man who may have an explosive device was hiding in a hotel in Bollene, southern France on Tuesday afternoon, according to local media.

In its report, the news channel BFMTV said the man was thought to be armed with a knife and might have a suspicious package. He was holed up in Formula 1 hotel near the A7 motorway.

The hotel has been evacuated and cordoned off while the highway both ways have been cut, according to the report.

The man's motives were not immediately known, it added.

France has been on high terrorism alert since last year's series of shootings and suicide attacks. Endit
